Let evening come
I read this poem over at A Holy Experience today and it summed up my mood perfectly. I don't feel very good today but even more than that it's as if a holy hush has come upon my spirit today. I haven't wanted to talk much and haven't wanted to listen either. I need still. I need quiet. My spirit feels introspective and contemplative. My heart is also hurting for a sweet friend of mine who lost someone she dearly loves this morning and I have been stilled for her and in constant thought and prayer for her.
Let the cricket take up chafing
as a woman takes up her needles
and her yarn. Let evening come....
Let the fox go back to its sandy den.
Let the wind die down. Let the shed
go black inside. Let evening come.
To the bottle in the ditch, to the scoop
in the oats, to air in the lung
let evening come.
Let it come, as it will, and don't be
afraid. God does not leave us
comfortless... so let evening come."
We slip our hand into Yours.

"Let the light of late afternoon
shine through chinks in the barn, moving
up the bales as the sun moves down.
